Don Hasselbeck, a tight Super Bowl champion who played nine years in the NFL, died after being stopped at his home, said his son on Monday. He was 70 years old.
Matt Hasselbeck, the former quarter of the NFL and son of the elder Hasselbeck, remembered his father in a post on X.

“He was a big husband, father, grandfather, friend, coach, player, colleague, artist, mentor and storyteller. Although he is an All-American in Colorado and a Super Bowl champion with the Raiders, what we are most proud of is the leader he was for our family,” he wrote.
“He helped put our feet on a solid ground. Married to and love our mom, Betsy, for 50 years, they built their house on the rock of Jesus Christ. The prayer newspapers of our father, in his meticulous manuscript and in a rainbow of pen colors, each hold our names and your needs.”
Don Hasselbeck was a second round choice in the 1977 NFL draft by the New England Patriots. He played for the Patriots until 1983, when he was exchanged to the Raiders of Los Angeles.

He played 14 games with the Raiders and appeared in each of their qualifying matches on their victory at the Super Bowl against the Washington Redskins.
Hasselbeck then spent a season each with the Giants of Minnesota and New York Giants before retiring.
“There is a 6 ‘7” hole in our hearts. He will miss so many people so much. We are more than grateful that he was our father and we are impatiently awaiting paradise and once again together, “added Matt Hasselbeck.

The two sons of Don Hasselbeck, Matt and Tim, both played in the NFL.
He achieved 107 catches for 1,542 yards and 18 affected in 123 career games.
