At least four Pakistani nationals were one of the 11 organizations recovered after a migrant ship flowed near the Harawa coast in East Libya, Pakistan’s Foreign Office confirmed on Monday.
“Our mission to Tripoli reported that a ship carrying foreign nationals have flowed near the Harawa coast, Sirte City (Eastern Libya),” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
“The visit of a team from the Pakistan Embassy in Sirte confirmed the recovery of 11 migrant organizations. Among these, four were identified as Pakistani nationals on the basis of their national documents. Two bodies remain unidentified,” added the press release.
The Pakistani victims identified include Zahid Mehmood of Gujranwala, and Sameer Ali, Syed Ali Hussain and Asif Ali, all from Mandi Bahauddin.
“The Tripoli Embassy is actively working to collect more information on affected Pakistani nationals and is in contact with local authorities,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In response to tragedy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also activated its crisis management unit. “The crisis management unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been activated to monitor the situation,” concluded the press release.
Efforts are underway to determine the identity of other victims and help affected families.
