A motorcyclist was killed after being struck by an oil tanker in the city of Saadi in Karachi on Wednesday, the local police announced, marking another deadly incident in the city.

According to managers, the motorcyclist, identified as Tanveer, died on the scene. His body was transferred to a neighboring hospital for legal formalities.

The oil driver fled immediately after the accident. Police confirmed that an investigation was underway to locate the suspect.

The accident is added to a growing list of deadly misadventures in Karachi. The authorities say that the city has experienced a sharp increase in traffic deaths this year.

In addition, earlier this week, the driver of a flight truck on the run who escaped the Karachi traffic police and endangered public security on Sharea Faisal went and was arrested, the police confirmed on Monday.

The incident, captured in a widely broadcast video, has shown a parade that pushed a police vehicle and fleeing the premises.

The images triggered indignation online and caused a repression on the city scale against skips and heavy transport vehicles.

According to the police, the driver arrested said he was prosecuted by motorcyclists and feared that his vehicle be burned – an answer to the violence of the recent crowd triggered by road accidents involving heavy vehicles.

According to a report by the Chhipa Welfare Association, more than 260 people were killed in traffic accidents in Karachi in 2025, while nearly 1,500 others were injured.

Many of these accidents involved freight vehicles and oil tankers, several incidents encouraging citizens to attack and burn heavy vehicles in retaliation.

The officials urged the public to remain calm and allow the police to conduct investigations.
