Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep pain on Wednesday about the death of four Pakistani nationals in a capsuvable boat off the coast of Harawa near the city of Sirte in eastern Libya.

The tragic incident occurred on April 12 near the Harawa coast, near the city of Sirte, as reported by an official press release sent by the Embassy to the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The rescue teams have so far recovered 11 bodies of the sea.

A team from the Pakistani Embassy visited Sirte and confirmed the identity of the four Pakistanis who died using national identification documents. According to the report, three of the deceased were from Mandi Bahauddin, while one was from Gujranwala.

In a message shared on his official X account (formerly Twitter) today, the Prime Minister wrote: “Deeply saddened by the reports of our mission to Tripoli from another boat capshaet … in which at least four Pakistanis were confirmed dead out of 11 victims.”

He added that Pakistan’s mission in Tripoli and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are actively working with the Libyan authorities to recover the remains and ensure good coordination with the families of the victims.

The PM has also reaffirmed the determination of its government to suppress traffickers of human beings responsible for endangering Pakistani citizens.

“We take strong measures against those responsible to catch our citizens in this death trap. We will continue to descend hard on such elements so that no family must carry the coffins of their loved ones in such accidents,” he said.
