Etihad Airways of the United Arab Emirates was authorized to operate additional flights to Karachi, officials confirmed on Wednesday, Express News reported.
According to sources, Etihad Airways had asked Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to increase its operations Karachi-Abu Dhabi by three flights per week.
The CAA approved the request, allowing the airline to operate a total of 17 weekly flights on the route, up compared to the current 14.
New flights are expected to start this year in October, expanding travel options for passengers between the two cities.
The Karachi-Abu Dhabi service of Etihad is one of the most popular international connections for the port city, serving travelers in business and leisure.
In addition, in another development carried out earlier this week, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) announced the launch of direct flights from Lahore to Bakou, the capital of Azerbaijan, from April 20.
According to the airline, two weekly flights will work on this road, starting from Lahore to Baku every Sunday and Wednesday.
To mark the occasion, a special event took place in Karachi for travel agents and tour operators, during which detailed information on new Baku flights were shared with the participants.
PIA officials said the new route should play an important role in increasing bilateral tourism and commercial links. They also highlighted the role of travel agents in the success of this initiative.
