Lahore:

The chief judge of the High Court of Lahore, Aalia Neelum, stressed the importance of preserving the dignity of the judiciary while urging the legal community to move away from the dominant culture of strikes and boycotts of the court.

During a meeting with representatives of various associations of district bars and Tehsil at the High Court of Lahore, CJ Aalia Neelum called on the legal fraternity to adopt more constructive approaches to attack the grievances.

She pointed out that strikes should not be the default, because they disrupt legal proceedings and have a serious impact on the livelihoods of many lawyers, in particular those who depend on daily judicial appearances.

“When the courts remain closed, the litigants suffer, as did the most vulnerable members of the legal profession,” said the chief judge, stressing the broader consequences of strike actions.

It reiterated the need for a cooperative and respectful environment between the bench and the bar, noting that the dignity of the courts is closely linked to the conduct and respect for the legal community. “A collaboration relationship is essential to maintain the rule of law and maintain public confidence in the judiciary,” she said.

Responding to the concerns concerning the agents of the magistracy, CJ Neelum indicated that complaints are subject in writing, ensuring that they would be addressed transparently and by regular procedure. “Transparency and responsibility are cornerstone of our judicial system,” she said.

The chief judge also shared updates on the main infrastructure projects aimed at modernizing the judicial system, including the upcoming construction of a advanced judicial tower in Lahore.
