The United Kingdom is ready to join Pakistan to help switch its economy to 2 dollars, the British High Commissioner in Pakistan Jane Marriott said on Thursday, reaffirming Great Britain’s long-term commitment to the country’s economic development.
Addressing the leaders of the Islamabad affairs summit, Marriott said that the United Kingdom is determined to further strengthen its strategic partnership with Pakistan in several vital sectors, including finance, health care, education, engineering and energy.
She noted that the United Kingdom remains one of the largest suppliers of financial, commercial and commercial services in the world, and sees great potential in the economy of Pakistan, in particular given its young and dynamic population.
“If Pakistan continues on its current reform and economic stability, there is every reason to believe that its economy could reach the bar of 2 dollars,” said Marriott.
The High Commissioner has described relations between the two countries such as “the two sides of the same room”, adding that their partnership has acquired significant land in recent years. The bilateral trade between the United Kingdom and Pakistan is currently 4.4 billion pounds sterling, and the two parties set a goal to double this figure at 10 billion pounds sterling in the coming years.
Marriott said that beyond trade, the two nations worked together on major initiatives such as Reko Diq’s extraction project, as well as important collaborations in clean energy and the response to climate change. She stressed that the attention of Great Britain was not only economic but also social, supporting reforms in the sectors of education, health care and engineering.
Referring to the recent progress of Pakistan on economic reforms, in particular in international monetary fund programs (IMF), Marriott said that the United Kingdom fully supports these efforts and considers them as essential to long-term stability.
It has revealed that Great Britain is currently funding a program of $ 45 million aimed at macroeconomic development in Pakistan. In addition, the United Kingdom is actively involved in promoting clean and green energy initiatives, which it has described as crucial for the sustainable future of Pakistan.
“Our collaboration with Pakistan is guided by a long-term strategic thought and a shared belief in the enormous potential of Pakistan,” she added.
The envoy welcomed the organizers of the Summit of Businesses, in particular Azfar Ahsan, for having created a platform where global business leaders, experts and decision-makers could exchange ideas on the creation of a prosperous future for Pakistan.
Marriott concluded by stressing that the British partnership with Pakistan is based on mutual respect and shared interests, and that the United Kingdom is ready to play its role by helping Pakistan to reach a stronger, more resilient and inclusive economy.
