A Rawalpindi court sentenced a driver of the government to 37 years of rigorous imprisonment for the fraud of citizens by wrongly promising them government jobs in exchange for large sums of money, new Express said on Friday.

The verdict was announced by the special central judge Abdul Rehman Arif.

As soon as the judgment was pronounced, the convicted person was handcuffed and placed in police custody of the courtroom.

According to legal proceedings, the convict, who worked as a driver for a government department, had extorted a total of 4.66 million rupees from an individual on the pretext of guaranteeing a government position.

The court found the proof against him conclusive.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court inflicted a fine of 2 million rupees on the sentence. In addition, he was ordered to pay 3.74 million rupees to the fraud citizen as compensation.

The anti-corruption wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) recorded the case against the accused last year.
