- Huawei Lance Cloudmatrix 384 Supernod to compete with NVL72 AI of NVIDIA
- Cloudmatrix 384 offers almost double the computing power with a superior memory and a bandwidth
- Consumes power almost four times, but the effectiveness of the system is less critical in China
Huawei has positioned himself like the Chinese Nvidia for some time, and now, Morning post in southern China reports that the company has launched a new IA infrastructure architecture to compete with the NVL72 system of the American chip giant.
NVIDIA NVL72 LINS 72 GPUS using NVLink technology, allowing them to operate as a single powerful GPU. Built for the models of a trillion parameters, it offers real -time inference at speeds up to 30 times faster than previous systems, avoiding the bottlenecks of traditional data transfer.
SCCP said Huawei’s rival to this, the Cloudmatrix 384 supernod has been described as a “nuclear product” by nameless Huawei sources. According to reports, he uses 384 Ascend 910C chips to deliver 300 Petaflops for dense BF16, almost double the 180 petaflops offered by Nvidia’s NVL72.
Hungry
The Cloudmatrix 384 supernod has so far been deployed in Huawei data centers in Wuhu, a city in the central province of Anhui, the report said.
Write on the new product, Semianalysis Confirm that this solution on the rack scale is in competition directly with the GB200 NVL72 of NVIDIA and, in certain measures, surpasses it. The site indicates that despite the sanctions, the capacities of interior semiconductors of China increase and Huawei’s strength lies in engineering in the system, including networking, optics and software.
While the Ascend chips are based strongly on foreign supply chains, such as HBM of Samsung and Wavers of TSMC, Huawei has managed to circumvent export controls thanks to complex supply strategies.
The Cloudmatrix 384 not only surpasses the NVL72 in terms of calculation, it also offers an aggregated memory capacity 3.6x and 2.1x more memory bandwidth. However, something Huawei is probably less eager to shout is that it consumes almost four times power.
Semianalysis Stresses that in China, it is less a problem than you think. An abundant electricity production means that efficiency is less a constraint compared to the West, and China quickly widens its energy network, supporting such an avibée infrastructure, even when supply exceeds demand.
