The senior official of Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI), Azam Swati, said that the party awaited a response from former president Arif Alvi before triggering a political dialogue, adding that discussions would only be to support democracy and the constitutional regime.
Addressing journalists outside the Judicial Complex in Rawalpindi on Saturday, Swati rejected the speculation of a political agreement, saying: “Those who claim that an agreement is underway has lost their meaning,” said Express News.
He clarified that any commitment would not aim to ensure the release of the founding president of the Imran Khan party.
“If Khan speaks, it will only be for democracy and the constitution,” said Swati.
He said Dr. Arif Alvi, a close assistant to Khan, was to go to last week but had postponed next week.
“We are waiting for his answer before taking the next step,” he noted.
The remarks occurred during Swati’s visit to express their solidarity with the head of the PTI Aliya Hamza, who was arrested a day earlier.
Swati also commented on the drop in party influence.
“I told Khan that I had 100,000 votes in Manshra, and now more one. Our position is no longer what it was-today, our strength lies in the founder and the public,” he said.
Swati also congratulated Alvi as “a great man and the right hand of Khan”, stressing his role in the guidance of any future political decision.
