Pakistani Prime Minister and President of the PML-NN, Shehbaz Sharif, asked his government to respond to the concerns of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) concerning a controversial channel project, signaling a desire to resolve the issue by dialogue.

According to the Prime Minister’s advisor to interprotrovincial coordination, Rana Sanaullah Khan, the directive of Shehbaz Sharif follows the consultation with the party leader Nawaz Sharif. “The Prime Minister asked that all the outstanding problems with the PPP be solved by talks,” said Rana, stressing the government’s commitment to the equitable distribution of resources, including water, among the provinces

Rana Sanaullah reaffirmed that the PPP is an integral part of the federal government and underlined the need for communication responsible by all the parties occupying constitutional offices. “We hold the management of the PPP in high esteem,” he said.

He referred to the 1991 water agreement and the 1992 law on IRSA, ensuring that these legal frameworks guarantee that no province is deprived of its part of water. “There is a constitutional mechanism in place to prevent any injustice,” he added.

Commenting on recent political tensions, Rana warned against the politicization of the question of water distribution. “Such questions should be resolved at the negotiating table,” he urged. “The strength of the provinces is the strength of the federation.”

He concluded by reaffirming the long-standing position of the PML-N: “As a party engaged in the Constitution and Democracy, we will never compromise on the rights of the provinces and their people. Dialogue and consultation remain the key to solving all disputes
