Security in Islamabad was increased on Sunday while the authorities sealed all the roads leading to the red zone before a “Gaza solidarity march” provided by Jamaat-E-Islami (JI).
Ji had previously announced a march to the United States Embassy in the capital to protest against Washington’s support for the military actions of Israel in Gaza.
The walk, scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m., prompted the authorities to deploy a strong police presence and block three main entry points to the red zone using containers, barbed wire and concrete barriers.
The secretary general of the JI, Amirul Azeem, confirmed the demonstration in a video message, urging citizens of all horizons to participate.
He underlined the peaceful nature of the demonstration, citing recent party rallies in Karachi and Lahore.
Earlier, Jamaat-E-Islami announced an obturation strike on the national level on April 22 to express their solidarity with the people of Gaza in the middle of the current offensive of Israel.
The announcement was made by the JI leader, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, while he was addressed to a large gathering during the “Palestine march” held on Sunday in Karachi.
Pakistan systematically condemned Israeli military operations in Gaza and called for an immediate cease-fire, resuming humanitarian aid and the creation of a Palestinian State.
