Money no object
We like to give practical purchase advice on the latest gadgets here in Techradar. But sometimes what we even like more is to engage in the most scandalously high -end, cutting -edge and advanced luxurious technology on the planet. This is what we bring to you in these silver columns without object – you can read the whole series here.
It was only recently that we discovered a pair of luxury speakers that look like something from Elton’s house “Rocket Man” John. And today, we have two pairs of luxury speakers that look like real space rockets, or perhaps robots that would chase Doctor Who in a career, or perhaps something Jony Ive would have designed in 2003.
These are the new passive speakers of Rhea and Theia of the Luxury Audio brand Swiss Goldmund, and they are yours for about $ 108,000 (£ 82,000 / $ 171,000 in) and $ 215,000 (£ 162,000 / $ 338,000 at).
If you are a fan of mythology, you will recognize the names: Theia and Rhea are Titan goddesses, and Goldmund also has an even higher range of speakers named from their mythical mother, Gaia.
The GAIA speakers are currently sold in the United Kingdom for £ 650,000 ($ 860,000 / $ 1,354,338 in), so in comparison, these are superchased budget purchases.
Goldmund Theia and Rhea: Key characteristics
Goldmund is already making speakers called Theia and Rhea, but these are new passive models that support the mono, bi and tri-wort configurations. The company warns that you will need a very high quality amplification to drive them, because the lower AMPs cannot offer the speed that drivers need to make their best.
The speakers are three in the case of RHEA and four -way with The Theia. The RHEA has a soft dome tweeter, a mid -range pilot of seven inch and a 12 -inch woofer, and the Théia has a soft dome tweet, a four -inch higher level pilot, a six -inch low -medium pilot and again, a 12 -inch Woofer.
The frequency response is 27 Hz to 25 kHz for the RHEA and from 20 Hz to 25 kHz for Thea.
As you can expect, when you order a pair of these speakers, Goldmund does not just take bubbles around them: each set is packed in a personalized flight case. This adds to the already considerable weight: the RHEA is 123 kg and TheA is 197 kg. Oh, and it’s by speaker.
The two speakers are available today. If you want something a little more affordable, we have a list of the best stereo speakers.
