President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he hoped that Russia and Ukraine could conclude a peace agreement during the week, offering the prospect of great commercial opportunities with the United States if they do, AFP reported.
“Hopefully Russia and Ukraine will conclude an agreement this week,” Trump published on Truth Social. “The two will then begin to do great deals with the United States of America, which flourished and will make a fortune.”
Trump’s remarks came after warning on April 18 that the United States would move away from negotiations if each team had blocked talks. “If for any reason, one of the two parties makes things very difficult … We are just going to take a pass,” he said.
The comments were published during a Easter truce declared by Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported more than 2,000 violations and proposed a 30 -day ban on long -range attacks. The Kremlin did not respond.
The Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky rejected the ceasefire as a “media blow” aimed at appeased Trump. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington could abandon his efforts if no progress was made.
The Trump administration highlighted economic incentives throughout its mediation efforts. After a telephone call from March with Putin, the White House underlined the potential of “enormous economic offers” between the United States and Russia.
Trump also supports a mineral agreement with Ukraine, giving in -depth access to the income of natural resources in exchange for previous military support. The agreement does not include any security guarantee.
