Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Tuesday that Pakistan wanted to improve cooperation with China in the fields of space technology, satellite communications and Internet services.

The Prime Minister made these remarks at a meeting with the delegation of the Chinese space technology company Galaxy Space, led by President Xu Ming.

The Prime Minister described China as a “very reliable friend” and a “strategic partner”, adding that Pakistan attaches great importance to the growth of its space and telecommunications sectors.

The Chinese delegation has expressed a strong interest in investing in the Space Industry in Pakistan and pursuing joint ventures with the Spatial Agency of the Suparco country, as well as in local telecommunications companies.

They also organized productive discussions with officials from the Pakistani ministry for information and telecommunications technology.

The federal ministers Ahad Khan Cheema and Shaza Fatima Khawaja, as well as the adviser to Prime Minister Dr Tauqir Shah, attended the meeting.

Last year, Pakistan launched its first lunar satellite in collaboration with China. The Icube-q Cubeat, developed by the Institute of Spatial Technology (IST) with the support of the Suparco and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, entered the lunar orbit via the Chinese mission Chang’e-6.

The 7 kg satellite carried cameras and sensors for imaging and communication in depth space.
