The founding president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, said that the country and its people need both the establishment and its party to guarantee national unity and stability.

The declaration was sent by the legal representative of Imran, the lawyer Faisal Chaudhry, following a meeting at the prison of Adiala in Rawalpindi, where Imran remains imprisoned.

Addressing journalists, Chaudhry said that Imran had expressed his concerns about what he described as systematic attempts to put the touch of PTI.

He said that the country had been transformed into a “banana republic” to crush the party and that institutions such as the judiciary, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the police had been damaged in the process.

Imran also criticized the restrictions on meetings with family and legal advice, declaring that it was his constitutional right. “At one point, even nine lawyers could meet him. Now, only two were allowed,” added Chaudhry.

“He noted that Imran’s health was good, but he had been informed that his sisters and several party leaders were refused visit rights. Imran has also raised objections about his wife, Bushra Bibi, faced with detention ill-treatment, “he added.

The former Prime Minister also reiterated PTI’s position as “national federating political force capable of uniting the country”.

His lawyer also declared that Imran had ordered the legal and political leaders of his party to deal with legal issues related to constitutional amendments and pending judicial affairs, some of which he affirmed was deliberately delayed.

The founding president of the PTI had also expressed concerns about the economy of Pakistan in difficulty and a lack of foreign investment, which he blamed in bad governance and the absence of the rule of law.
