USA Fencing announced Thursday that it was preparing to change its sexual eligibility policy, after a viral manifestation of the female female Stephanie Turner sparked a mass reaction and a federal intervention by protesting against a trans opponent.
The organization said that it was preparing to modify its current policies which allow biological men to compete with women and girls in the event that it is “forced” to change it.
“In the event that the United States’s closure is forced to modify its current position in accordance with supervisory organizations or federal legislation, the new policy declares that athletes in competition in the fencing tournaments of American fences must compete according to their biological sex,” said the announcement.
The proposed update policy ensures that the women’s category “will be open exclusively to female athletes”. The male category “will be open to all other athletes who are otherwise eligible for competition”.

The change would come into force through the levels of competition sanctioned, in particular division I, IA, II, III, Junior, Cadet, Youth, Veteran and all the other categories.
If it is adopted, this policy only aims to guarantee the future compliance required by surveillance organizations. This policy does not reflect any change in our solid support for the right of each individual to identity, “said the announcement.
“We recognize that many people – in particular transgender and non -binary athletes and their supporters in the country’s fencing clubs – will be deeply affected if this policy takes effect.”
Turner spoke out against the organization and its change of rule prepared for PK Press Club Digital.
“Fencing in the United States claims to need an external authorization to follow the federal law which guarantees fair competition and equal opportunities for women. They know their current policy allowing men to take the national and global titles of women are unfair, but instead of taking responsibilities, they transmit the bar at USOPC, an ideologically captured organization,” said Turner.
“This results in a loose position without urgency for change. Admitting that politics is wrong but refusing to repair it, they insult women more. While we head to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, he has long passed for USFA and USOPC athletes to apply the policies that protect the category of women for female athletes and to stop.”
The organization underwent an immense global exam after a video of Turner on his knees to protest against the trans competitor of Redmon Sullivan at the opening of Cherryier, then to disqualify, became viral in early April.
