- A new arrangement for the pixel locking screen has been spotted
- Parts of the widget at a glance could be repositioned
- The full Android 16 update should land in June
With Android 16 which now comes quickly on the horizon and directly for our phones, we learn more and more about the features it will bring with it – including, potentially, a remained design for the lock screen on pixel devices.
This comes from certain excavations that Android Authority has made in the latest beta version of Android 16. These changes are not yet live, but they are hidden in the code, and the Android team Authority has managed to make them work.
Overall, it is a cleaner and minimalist look for the locking screen: the small widget practices at a glance that Google puts on its pixel phones, which shows information such as upcoming calendar meetings and the current date, is reorganized.
This widget can be very useful for displaying relevant information without the locking screen being unlocked, so it is important that it is easily readable and accessible. It is not yet clear if this new layout will be configurable in any way.
Layout modifications
The opinion of the new locking screen will depend on what is displayed. If there are no notifications or extracts of information on the widget (such as a next calendar event), the widget date and time move under the clock, from its current left -handed corner position.
If there are information extracts in the widget on events, timer or anything else, these remain in the upper left corner, where they are currently. It is logical that these details need a little more prominence in the overall arrangement.
If there are application notifications on the screen, the clock moves upwards and the information extracts are seated below, which is happening now. However, the date and the weather move to the right of the clock, rather than below.
This gives you more space under the clock for incoming notifications – which is useful, especially if you get a lot. Android 16 is expected around June, and we should know more about Google I / O 2025 next month.
