Quetta:
MAHRANG BALOCH -detained activist launched a hunger strike with other detainees, her sister told AFP on Friday.
Mahrang Baloch, 32, was arrested last month for terrorism, sedition and murder.
Mahrang’s hunger strike “aims to denounce police misconduct and the failure of the judicial system to protect … prisoners,” said her younger sister, Nadia Baloch.
Nadia said the hunger strike was launched Thursday after the attempt to “kidnap” one of the Baloch prisoners.
The Baloch Yakjehti committee (BYC) said the detainee was beaten by security officials and taken from the prison in an unknown place.
A security official said the detainee had been transferred to another prison and denied any ill -treatment.
BYC said that four other detaineed Baloutches activists have joined the hunger strike. “All are peaceful political workers, imprisoned for having raised their voices … Their only” crime “is organized peacefully in an environment saturated with state terror and violence,” said the group.
