- New clues on update 25h2 have been discovered
- References in a file mention 25h2 and attach it to preview builds in the 26200 range which have recently been launched by Microsoft
- As 26,200 is a small increment compared to previous 26100 builds, it is likely that the 25H2 update will be a minor affair in the form of an “activation package”
Other indices have been picked up by suggesting that Microsoft is working on Windows 11 25:2:2 AM – a speculation that was triggered for the first time last month – and that it will be a relatively minor update.
Windows has noticed that one of the most regular leaks of information linked to Microsoft on X, Xenopanther, spotted what is apparently a reference to the 25h2 update in a recent preview of Windows 11.
GE25H2 is mentioned in assessment.dll26200 = ft_all_compatindicorhelper_writing25h2h2h2April 23, 2025
The reference to “GE25H2″ is present in a DLL file, which represents “ greater than or equal to 25h2 ” and there is another mention of 25h2 which specifically links it to the series of numbered versions from 26,200.
Windows has verified this and notes that the DLL “assessor” in question concerns verification if a PC qualifies for upgrading. In other words, this is part of the code that checks whether a given system is compatible and correct for 25 hours to be installed.
Analysis: probably an activation package for 25h2?
All this is in theory, of course, because Microsoft did not say that he was officially working on Windows 11 25h2, or even mentioned the name.
What Microsoft told us, in March, if you remember it is that it brings “behind-the-scenes platform changes” in new preview constructions in the 26200 range. And as indicated above, 26200 is mentioned and linked to 25h2 specifically in this DLL file.
The changes made in the background are theorized as adjustments to the platform underlying the desktop operating system, which has been refreshed to a new model called Germanium with Windows 11 24H2. Like another leak, Zac Bowden, informed us last month, it is very likely that all of this was enveloped in throwing the first work of 25:2, which could be a much more minor update compared to 24:2, which was a huge business (with this transition to German).
The change in previous 26100 builds at the beach 26200 is a small increment, which suggests that 25h2 will also be updated. Indeed, as the latest Windows points out, it will probably be called an “activation package” in the same way that 11:2 p.m. was built over 10:2 p.m. This simply means that all the new features (probably a small number of them) are already in place in Windows 11 and will simply be activated by the update.
All this is guessing at this stage, although with this new leak, it seems just a little more likely that this is how things take place.
The potentially good news for 25 hours being a lesser update is that with fewer changes, there should also be fewer bugs. The 24h2 update turned out to be seriously problematic with the Gremlins in the work in part because of all the DIYs which take place deeply in the Windows 11 guts which was necessary to inaugurate the Germanium platform.
