Senator Irfan Siddiqui of the Pakistani Muslim League – Nawaz (PML -N) accused Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of pursuing Israeli style policies to cashmere, alleging an attempt to transform the region occupied into “another Gaza”.
In an article on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Irfan Siddiqui wrote that India under Modi could no longer be called the world’s greatest democracy, declaring rather that it had become “the largest murder ground for Muslims and other minorities”.
He accused the Indian government of reproducing the repressive policies of Israel in the occupied Palestinian territories, in particular Gaza, and of applying them in the Jammu and the cashmere occupied by illegally (iiojk).
“Moda follows the Israeli policy model,” said Irfan Siddiqui. “He tries to transform cashmere into another Gaza.”
Referring to the recurring threats of India to cut the water in Pakistan, Irfan Siddiqui warned against serious consequences. “If India throws the first brick from any dam that stifles our rivers, the answer will be with stone, not silence,” he said, adding that such actions would be treated as an act of war.
His remarks are involved in the midst of growing regional tensions and criticism of India policies to cashmere, in particular after the revocation of article 370 in 2019, which stripped the region of its special constitutional status. Rights defense groups have since taken the alarm on generalized restrictions, arbitrary detentions and demographic changes.
Earlier, hundreds of Pakistani rallied across the country, notably at the cashmere of Azad, to protest against the threats of India reprisals following a deadly attack on civilians at IIOJK on Tuesday.
The demonstrations intervened after the Indian Prime Minister Narendra amended promised to “continue and punish” the authors of Tuesday assault in Pahalgam, who killed 26 civilians and was the deadliest attack in the contested region in more than two decades. Modi accused Pakistan of supporting what he described as a “cross -border terrorism”.
Previously, students of the cashmere in various Indian states have declared to face threats and harassment following the deadly attack in Pahalgam, Iiojk, which cost the lives of 26 people, mainly domestic tourists.
According to the Iiojk Students Association, students from states such as Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh were invited to leave their homes and inns rented shortly after the attack.
What’s going on in Gaza?
The number of deaths in Gaza exceeded 51,400 after Israeli air strikes killed 84 more Palestinians in the last 24 hours, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. The total number of injured has now reached 117,400 since the conflict increased in October 2023.
The latest deaths included the victims of an air strike on an inappropriate school housing of families in northern Gaza. The attack marks violence despite a January ceasefire agreement which had briefly interrupted the fighting.
Last November, the International Criminal Court published arrest mandates against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Yoav Gallant Minister of Defense for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for his war against the enclave.
