The European Fencing Championship presented a controversial protest against the Israel team in Tallinn, Estonia on Saturday evening.
Members of the Silver Medals Fencing Fencing Team in Switzerland under 23 turned their back on Israeli gold medalists during the medal ceremony while the Israeli national anthem was playing.
Israel beat Switzerland 45–34 to win gold.

After the incident, the Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister Gideon Sa’ar condemned Switzerland for the demonstration.
The Israel Fencing Fencing team has faced previous demonstrations by opponents in recent years.
The Iraqi national fencing team withdrew from a match against Israel in the world fencing championship in Istanbul in May 2023.

The FIFA disciplinary committee was invited to examine the discrimination allegations against the Israel team and even had to consider a suspension after their request from the Palestinian Football Federation, the PFA. PFA specifically accused the Israeli Federation IFA To be an accomplice in violations of international law by the Israeli government, discrimination against Arab players and inclusion in its club league located on Palestinian territory.
FIFA did not suspend Israel, and IFA then castigated the PFA for the accusations in a press release provided to PK Press Club Digital.

“The one who fantasized about the suspension of Israeli football in the international arena or sanctions through lies and false accusations has suffered a defeat,” the statement said. “Once again, we have acted over time in different channels, in a calculated and proactive way in the face of the challenge of the Palestinian association and its leader to distort reality, and the result leaves no room today.
“We respect the authors of the report submitted to the members of the Council and the decision of the members of the Council to consider transferring two questions to a legal examination, as long as there is a factual justification. Thanks to values which represent a glorious democracy and an independent and determined legal system of the football association, we have never violated and will rape any of the FIFA / UEFA rules.”
