The demonstrations of lawyers and civil society militants against the proposed construction of six industrial channels have entered their 10th consecutive day, which caused full traffic between the Sindh and the Punjab along the national road.

Sit-in demonstrations, which have gained size and momentum, seriously disrupted the transport of essential products such as petrol and food supplies, with trucks and trailers blocked for days. Heavy container drivers have indicated that their vehicles deteriorate due to the prolonged stop.

The demonstrators insist on the fact that they will continue their blockade until an official notification confirming the cancellation of the project is issued, despite the insurance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that no canal will be built without consensus through the Common Interest Board (CCI).

After high-level discussions between Prime Minister Shehbaz and PPP President Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, the Prime Minister announced that the CCI meeting scheduled for May 2 would officially approve of the agreement to suspend the channel projects unless the consensus is reached.

Demonstrations were organized in several places along the national road, including near Mangrio Pump in Daharki, Ghotki, now entering their eighth day.

Distinct demonstrations, such as the sit-in of lawyers in Kamoon Shaheed, have also added to transport disturbances.

Earlier, the Sindh -Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah called the anti -school demonstrators to unlock the roads they have obstructed because the cancellation of the Canal project was announced.

Shah also allegedly alleged that “those who push the channel project wanted the PPP to do not make power” and noted that there are two groups of anti-Canal demonstrators; Those who have really opposed the project as he goes against provincial interests, and those who try to use the situation for political ends by bringing the PPP public mandate, thus blocking the roads and hampering daily activities.
