An explosion of bomb near the office of a peace committee (Aman) in the Wana region of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) district, the Waziristan district, killed at least seven people and left 29 other injured, reported Express News.
Sub-commissioner Nasir Khan confirmed that the explosion had occurred near the premises of the committee, which led to multiple victims.
The injured were transferred to the hospital in the Wana district headquarters for treatment. Police officials said the peace’s office was completely destroyed in the explosion.
The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, but no group has so far claimed the responsibility of the attack.
The explosion comes up against a context of the increase in militant activity in Pakistan. According to Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), January 2025 attended a 42% increase in terrorist incidents compared to the previous month.
Picss recorded 74 militant attacks on a national scale during the month, causing 91 deaths – including 35 members of the security personnel, 20 civilians and 36 activists – and injuring 117 others.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa remained the most affected region, with 27 attacks in its established districts and 19 attacks in tribal areas (former FATA), causing significant victims.
Balutchistan has also experienced increased militant activity with 24 registered attacks.
