- Perplexity added the generation of AI images to its platform
- The images are produced using the Openai model, which has recently been published for Chatgpt
- Perplexity also rendered the Grok-3 models of Openai and Xai available
The perplexity of the AI conversational search engine can now add AI visuals to your answer. And if these images are very similar to what Chatgpt would do, well, it is because they use the same model.
If you are not convinced, the image on the left has been generated using perplexity, while the one on the right was created by Chatgpt, both with the same prompt. It’s like a Ghostwriter writer, but for fantastic landscapes with dragons instead of a legal thriller sold at an airport.
Perplexity discreetly added the functionality to its web platform this week, offering three generations of images per day for free users and unlimited generations for users of Perplexity Pro. It’s quite simple to use it.
As with Chatgpt, you just have to ask the AI to “generate an image of” something, or to use a similar language to configure the prompt.
Do not worry if you do not have the model (officially GPT-4.1) chosen from the list of model options, either; Perplexity will automatically use it to produce the visual. It is probably because none of the other models will make an image of perplexity at the moment.
You can generate images on perplexity now. The user interface is cute and fun. We have also added the management of the Grok 3 and O4-Mini for the model selection options (which already supports Gemini 2.5 Pro, Claude 3.7, Perplexity Sonar, GPT-4.1, Deepseek R1 1776) and planning to take care of O3 like… pic.twitter.com/rx6l98pf2gApril 25, 2025
Perplexity images
However, it was not the only addition to the capacities of Perplexity announced by the company. The AI assistant added a few other models to his stable.
XAI’s GROK 3 model is now one of the choices to use perplexity to answer questions, while the O4-Mini of Openai model is now one of the “reasoning” model options.
All this corresponds to the approach of Perplexity to its AI platform. Rather than trying to build everything from scratch, the company organizes models and holds them in its platform to rationalize access.
It is an intelligent game, especially given the number of people who may want to try an AI tool, but are not willing to engage in one among the many. Most people just want to ask an intelligent machine a question, get a clear answer, perhaps see a cool image of a flying whale during their stay and move on.
The addition of the chatgpt image generator is a nice touch of color to the AI search engine. He will probably become particularly popular once he joins the voice assistant on the Perplexity mobile application.
