The polio virus was detected in 22 of the 34 environmental samples taken from 44 districts in Pakistan, officials announced on Monday.

In total, 56 environmental samples were taken, among which 34 samples were tested negative, while 22 confirmed the presence of the polio virus.

The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) said that there had been a significant reduction in the spread of the virus after the vaccination campaigns carried out in February and April this year.

During the second national polio campaign for this year, more than 45.3 million children were administered by drops in oral polio vaccine.
