Roy Cooper, nicknamed the “Super Looper” during his legendary Rodeo career, died this week at the age of 69.
Cooper, considered the largest roper of all time, died on Tuesday in a house fire on his property in Decatur, Texas.
“It is with great sadness that our family shares the death of our father, the Super Looper, Roy Cooper,” wrote Cooper’s son, Tuf, in an article on Facebook. “We are all in shock and as far as the loss of this tragedy at the moment.”

Cooper launched his career in 1976, when he won a world championship in his first national final. He won eight titles in total and was inducted at the Prorodeo renown temple in 1979, just three years from his career.
Tuf is a third generation rodeo star. Cooper’s parents were also strings. Cooper’s mother was born in a ranch and the family lived in New Mexico when he grew up.
The world of the rodeo has cried Cooper’s death.

“The broken heart to hear about the death of Roy Cooper. … He inspired generations of Cow-Boys, and his inheritance continues,” said Andra Estes Beatty, induced in Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame, in a statement, via the Express.
“The rudeo community cries a huge loss today with the death of the legend of the Rodeo and Super Looper, Roy Cooper,” added the Texas Department of Agriculture. “Commissioner Sid Miller and his wife, Debra, raise the Cooper family in prayer as they sail in this heartbreaking period.”
“When someone referred to” Super Looper “, each Rodeo fan knew exactly who you were talking about,” wrote Sean Gleason, CEO of Bull Riding.
