When Matthew Golden came out of the Green Hall of the NFL 2025 draft in Green Bay last Thursday, he appeared as a member of the packers – and fans of the hometown let him hear how excited they were.
The surreal moment always looks like a golden dream.
“Just the way it happened, I have the impression that God has made it happen like that for a reason. This is something that will stay with me forever,” he told PK Press Club Digital while discussing his time working with Tide in the draft.

Golden’s response on his day of draft day says everything in terms of faith plays a big role in his life.
The native of Houston, Texas, said that he “grew up in the house of the church”, where he learned to play the battery at six years old.

This strong faith, as well as a solid family connection, helped lead Golden to the NFL summits today. And he knows that he would not be in this position without these two foundation pillars in his life.
“There were moments of adversity struck me and God was the one who was there for me,” said Golden. “There were times when people doubted me, and I sometimes wanted to abandon. But by returning to God, he definitely helped me arrive here.”

One of the largest adversity parts occurred in 2023 when Golden suffered an injury to the foot playing for the Houston Cougars. After nine solid games, he had to miss the rest of the season because of this.
“It was the first time that football had made me remove,” said Golden about the injury. “So, I did not know how to face it and I was frustrated. But at that time, my relationship with God became much stronger, and I started to understand that it happened for a reason.”
Golden would enter the transfer portal in December of the same year, and he landed with the Longhorns, remaining in Texas not too far from home.
Golden posted his best collegial season in one year with Texas, totaling 58 receptions for 987 yards and nine affected in 16 games to help the team reach the playoffs of university football.
He later directed a 4.29 40 yards dashboard at the NFL Scouting combines, selling his place as one of the best receivers in this year’s class, and the packers jumped at the opportunity to make the history of the franchise.

For the first time since 2002, the packers have selected a receiver in the first round of the NFL draft, and Golden is ready for this next chapter of his football career.
“Now, looking back, it really makes sense, and as I said, God has gone through everything I lived in my life for a reason. I feel like it is really what made me who I am today and that’s why I am who I am.”
