India would have blocked the Instagram account of Pakistani Olympian and Arshad Nadeem gold medalist, while tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad continue to simmer the attack on Pahalgam.
According to the media, the Indian government, acting on the recommendations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, previously prohibited 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, including those belonging to three former players of Pakistani crickets – Rashid Latif, Shoaib Akhtar and Basit Ali.
In what seems to be a new climbing of digital restrictions, the Instagram profile of Arshad Nadeem is now inaccessible to users of India. Nadeem, who won the very first Olympic gold medal in Pakistan in Thoad Javelin, was recently invited by the Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra to participate in a javelin event in India. However, Nadeem refused the invitation.
The invitation one day came before the Pahalgam incident, which has since sparked a new wave of accusations and counter-narratives between the two countries. Observers suggest that India’s decision to block the Nadeem account could be an attempt to control online stories surrounding recent disorders.
Meanwhile, right -wing Indian groups also criticized Neeraj Chopra for extending the invitation to the Pakistani athlete.
Earlier, Instagram had also limited access to accounts of several Pakistani celebrities and influencers in India, citing a legal request linked to content regulations.
The affected accounts include those of actress Mahira Khan, influencer Hania Aamir and singer-actor Ali Zafar. Indian users who try to see these profiles encountered the message: “Account not available in India. Indeed, we have respected a legal request to restrict this content. ”
