The 21 horses in Kentucky Derby this year are descendants of the famous racing horse secretariat, according to the Courier-Journal in Louisville, Kentucky.
This year marks 52 years since the secretariat won the triple crown in record time which is still held today. Now, the heritage of the horse will be honored, regardless of the winning horse.

The secretariat generated more than 660 foals recorded during the life of the horse.
The racing horse had an unusually important heart, according to the Associated Press. He then won the derby, Preakness and Belmont in record time, and ended a drought at Triple Crown of 25 years in 1973. He marked one of the most monumental moments in the history of horse racing.
The secretariat won the derby with a time of 1: 59.40, a record that has not yet been broken.
Two weeks later, at Preakness Stakes, he won again with a time of 1:53, another record that is still today.
During the challenges of Belmont, the horse swept through the competition and won by 31 exceptional lengths. The secretariat has become the first winner of the Triple Crown since 1948, when Quote won the title.
