The IMF “ turns the deaf ear ‘at the request of India

Islamabad:

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) transformed the deaf ear at the request of India to stop its loan program for Pakistan.

Resident representative of the IMF in Pakistan, Esther Perez Ruiz, said in an informal conversation that the Fund Executive Committee will carry out its program on May 9, and Pakistan’s request will also be examined at this meeting. “We cannot comment on the concerns raised by other countries,” she said.

According to officials from the Ministry of Finance, the country is expected to receive a $ 2.3 billion package from the IMF at the meeting. The meeting should also approve a resilience and sustainability program (RSF) of $ 1.3 billion linked to climate financing.

The funds will be disbursed in several payments over a period of 28 months to help Pakistan meet the challenges of climate change. An agreement at the level of staff between Pakistan and the IMF was concluded on March 25.

Earlier, media reports citing a foreign news agency said that the Indian government official has urged the IMF to examine his financial assistance in Pakistan. However, no other details have been provided on request.

Meanwhile, Khurram Shehzad, advisor to the Minister of Finance, told a foreign news agency that the IMF program progressed in the right direction and that the recent review had been successfully completed.
