Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi arrived in Islamabad on Monday for a day visit in the midst of growing tensions between Pakistan and India after the attack on the Indian tourists, Jammu and Kashmir (Iiojk) last month.

Islamabad rejected India’s charges of involvement, saying that it had credible information suggesting that New Delhi could plan military action. The current confrontation sparked a regional alarm on a potential escalation between neighbors with nuclear arms.

Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, told state media that Araqchi meetings would tackle “ways to reduce tensions in the subcontinent” due to Iran’s close ties with India and Pakistan.

Abbas Araqchi was welcomed at the airport by the additional secretary of Western Asia Syed Asad Gillani, the Iranian envoy and other senior Pakistani officials.

During the visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs should speak with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Ishaq Dar.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) said that the high -level visit reflects the “deep and strong relationship between Pakistan and the fraternal nation of Iran” and reaffirms mutual commitment to strengthen cooperation.

Abbas Araqchi should go to New Delhi later this week, although there is little time left if the visits have been planned or an answer to the crisis.

The FO added that the two parties will also exchange views of the main regional and global developments.

India has not responded to diplomatic awareness of Pakistan. His Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously rejected third -party mediation on cashmere.

Pakistan, on the other hand, contacted several capitals concerning the situation, including Russia. During a recent call with his counterpart Pakjstani, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov, urged restraint and stressed the importance of diplomacy to defuse tensions.

Islamabad also asked his UN envoy to request a Briefing from the Security Council on what he calls the “aggressive actions” of India threatening regional peace.
