Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to work closely with Iran for Peace, Stability and Regional Development at a meeting with the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Seyed Abbas Arabhchi in Islamabad on Monday.

At the start of the meeting, the PM expressed condolences on the recent explosion of Bandar Abbas, which led to multiple victims and injuries. He extended his greetings to the supreme Iranian chief of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and expressed warm wishes for the newly elected president Masoud Pezeshkian.

The PM Shehbaz used the opportunity to express Pakistan’s concerns about the increase in tensions in South Asia, which it attributed to the provocative actions of India after the Pahalgam incident.

He categorically rejected attempts to connect Pakistan to the incident, calling for such foundation and baseless complaints. “Pakistan has offered an international, transparent, neutral and credible investigation to determine the facts behind Pahalgam’s attack,” he reiterated.

Prime Minister Shehbaz has also criticized India’s decision to suspend the Industry Water Treaty, describing it as unacceptable provocation. “India’s armaments of the Indus water Treaty is a red line for the people of Pakistan,” he warned.

In response, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Araghchi has argued the greetings of the Iranian management and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to deepen its bilateral relations with Pakistan. He also expressed Iran’s desire to play a constructive role in supporting peace and stability in South Asia.
