Jon Gruden is back in professional football, but it is not with the NFL.
The former head coach will join the Nashville Kats in the Arena Football One league as a party owner.
Gruden will not be a head coach, but the team rather said that it would be “advisory and advice roles in all aspects of the team’s football and sales operations”.

Gruden joins a ownership group which includes the former titans of Tennessee and the head coach of the Rams of Los Angeles, Jeff Faither, who is also the commissioner of the League and president of Kats.
“I have been a fan of indoor football for a long time and I jumped at the opportunity to participate in Jeff and the Nashville Kats as part of the ownership group,” said Gruden in a statement. “I have so much respect for what Jeff has done during his career and continues to do with the Nashville Kats and as a commissioner of AF1. I am delighted to be part of the team.”

Gruden has not been involved in any professional football team at any level since he resigned from the Las Vegas Raiders coach during the 2021 season. The resignation intervened after overwhelming emails he sent before being hired by the franchise, which included anti-gay, racist and misogynous comments.
The 61-year-old man served as a advice to New Orleans Saints in 2023, although he was not an official part of the staff.

He brought a legal action against the NFL for the interference and the contractual conspiracy, but a panel of three justice before the Supreme Court of Nevada took the side of the NFL. Gruden appealed the decision and he will be examined by a court of seven people on a later date.
While Gruden is well known for his stay in the NFL, his younger brother, Jay, won four titles from the arena football league as a player and two as a coach before jumping in the NFL.
Since his resignation, Gruden has remained in contact with the NFL, joining Barstool Sports more recently to provide his expertise to the Sports Media Company.

But now Gruden is still part of the game to a real professional capacity.
