The Punjab government has advanced its highly anticipated electronic taxi project, approving a pilot phase of 1,100 electric taxis and solar energy charging stations which should be launched soon.

A special meeting chaired by the chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, was held to examine public transport projects.

During the session, the feasibility report of the public transport system of the yellow line was presented and the participants were informed of the Eco-Taxi-friendly initiative in the province.

The meeting granted the approval of the principle to the financial model of the project and agreed to launch a pilot program involving 1,100 electric taxis. It has also been decided to install solar energy systems for electronic loading stations.

In addition, the authorities asked for a report on new routes for the public transport system in Gujranwala.

Head Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif asked officials to determine the audience based on the public and ordered that the construction of the yellow line, from the Jinnah terminal to Harbanspura, is launched without delay.

The meeting also included a detailed examination of the E-Taxi project. During the briefing, it was revealed that the Punjab government would offer grants as part of the electronic taxi program. A proposal to establish charging stations alongside petrol pumps has also been discussed.

Earlier, CM Maryam Nawaz ordered free treatment for India return patients due to the tension of bilateral relations.

After the recent epidemic of tension between the two countries, Pakistani patients were returned from India without completing their treatment.
