- Giant off -road jeep wants to continue growing in Europe
- Gas ODUSERS SUVs have been replaced by hybrid and electric
- The new compass should be the most capable car in its class
Although Jeep is about as American as peanut-butter and vestwiches, the manufacturer belonging to Stellantis makes waves in Europe with his range of electrified SUVs.
The smaller Avenger model, which is available in fully electric, hybrid and petrol versions, has already been successful, mixing the brand’s renowned all-terrain prowess with a compact and practical daily crossing vehicle.
Now, the new compass hopes to rely on these successes with new looks and a highly electrified selection of powertrain. He will participate in the C-SUV growing segment in Europe, which should be 90% electrified by the end of 2026.
By turning their backs to the disguised image of gas that large models like Wrangler and Gladiator are reminiscent, the new compass is built on the same Stellantis Stla architecture as the SUVs of Peugeot, Vauxhall and Citroen of medium size – many of which wear highly electrified powertrains.
The combustion-powered compass will have the possibility of “light hybrid” variants and plug-in, which mainly use the engine to supply the car, but increases the overall efficiency (mild hybrid) or adds fully electric driving options for a short distance (plug-in).
But Jeep says that the pure electric version is delivered with a 211 hp or 229 hp engine mounted on the front axle, offering 311 beach miles with a smaller 73 kWh battery or up to 404 miles from a 96 kWh pack at the range.
The most expensive electric models, 4xe -in -law, arrive with an additional engine on the rear axle, offering the famous jeep jeep jeep driving and offering up to 370 hp and an astounding 3100 Nm available on the rear wheels thanks to a 14: 1 rear reducer.
This allows the compass to climb a 20%slope, says Jeep, even with a zero traction on the front wheels, because the transparent groan of the rear wheels can manage heavy lifting.
The load rates are up to 160 kW, allowing recharging of 10 to 80% in 30 minutes, and the battery electric beach is presented to more than 400 miles.
The 4xe model also receives an improved land authorization thanks to an increase of 100 mm of the height of the suspension and a number of specific off -road keys, such as nouton tires and a more aggressive and resistant body kit.
The versions of the first edition of The Compass, which present all the emergency kit mentioned above, are available on order now, with the first deliveries expected at the end of the year in Europe. Other markets should follow suit later.
Difficult cars are the most difficult sale
Most car manufacturers find it difficult to get on board with the electric revolution, not only to persuade customers that it is a good idea, but also to make the whole of the costly effort profitable.
However, there are a number of brands that will naturally find more harm than most, with Jeep mentioned in the same breath as Ferrari, Lamborghini and a handful of car manufacturers who find it difficult to convince customers that electrification is the answer.
After all, Jeep has expressed a reputation in the past 80 years to produce very capable and combustion all-terrain.
By its very nature, the electric vehicle cannot “go nowhere”. Well, not before someone invents a portable battery the size of a jerry which is able to add at least 300 miles of range and can be completed in a few minutes from any easily accessible load station.
But Jeep knows that the only way to earn money is to chase the most popular sectors, the Avenger already proving commercial success in the compact SUV sector, deploying more than 2.5 million units worldwide.
The company hopes that it will get similar results with the compass in Europe and further.
Although reassuring the North American market that the electric battery and the rechargeable hybrid motorcycle groups are a good alternative to the 3.6-liter V6 currently in gladiator models will be a much more difficult task.
