Punjab Minister Maryam Nawaz said a state of emergency in all of the province on Wednesday and ordered the closure of all educational establishments following a series of Indian missile strikes that targeted civil zones, causing a rapid military response from Pakistan.
“All doctors and medical staff have been canceled, and civil defense staff have been recalled in service,” Maryam announced in an emergency briefing, urging hospitals and rescue services to remain on alert.
The announcement reached after the Pakistani army confirmed that Indian forces had launched air strikes in five places in Pakistan, notably Bahawalpur, Kotli, Muzaffarabad, Bagh and Muridke.
According to the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lieutenant-General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the attacks targeted civil zones and spared the military installations.
In a rapid counter-offensive, the armed forces of Pakistan launched missile strikes which would have destroyed an registered office of Indian brigade and a military post in the Dudhnal sector along the control line (LOC). While reaffirming Pakistan’s desire for peace, she warned that the country would not accept any compromise on its sovereignty. “We are looking for peace, but with dignity. If the war is imposed, the whole nation will be united as one force,” she added.
In response to the climbing of the crisis, the CM asked the public to stay inside and avoid unnecessary trips. It urged citizens to count only on official information sources and to report any injury or emergency to neighboring hospitals or rescue services.
