- Google FI VPN has been replaced by VPN by Google
- It becomes the last service to make the change after pixel devices are converted throughout 2024
- The brand change does not promise any technical or functional modification of the service for users
Google FI VPN has become the last Google VPN service to undergo a brand change in favor of uniformity between devices.
As indicated by 9TO5GOOGLE on May 6, 2025, Google FI VPN is now VPN by Google, aligning with the name of the name adopted by the VPN on Pixel devices in 2024.
VPN by Google is an integrated service published in 2024 for Pixel 7 and more recent devices, after the disconnection of Google One VPN. Google claims that the change comes to guarantee a coherent brand and no technical or functional modification will occur for users of Android and iOS.
Rebranding Google VPN
While Google decided to kill its Google One VPN last year due to a lack of users, the large technology company wanted to continue to offer a virtual private network tool (VPN) for pixel users.
Pixel VPN was then published in beta in early June 2024. The company, however, decided to change the name to VPN by Google just before the full launch at the end of the month.
The brand change of Google FI VPN is the last step in the reorganization of its VPN product by the company.
Originally an exclusive feature for Pixel 8 models, the integrated VPN of Google was extended to owners of Pixel 7, 7A and PlĂ© series. The service is available in 25 countries when writing the editorial’s time, including Australia, Canada, some EU countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and more), Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. You can find the full list on the Google assistance site.
If you are a FI subscriber and you use a Pixel 7 or more recent model, you can go directly to the FI application to have more information.
As indicated by 9TO5GOOGLE, the application explains that “from May 22, VPN controls move to the parameters. To make sure that your online activity is protected, activate VPN by Google Now.”
Once you turn on the new VPN, you can activate or deactivate the service by pressing the bar “Manage the VPN settings”.
Although access to VPN by Google is included in any Google FI plan, “using VPN by Google can increase data costs according to your plan”, notes the supplier.
In the event that you are looking for a valid alternative, I recommend looking for some of the best VPN services on the market at the moment, as these can offer additional features such as the advertising / tracker blocker and more.
NordVPN is currently at the top of our ranking thanks to large performance, tons of safety features and easy -to -use applications. Proton VPN is then an excellent choice if you do not want to invest additional money because it comes with a free unlimited VPN plan.
