- The movement of Openai’s windsurfing puts its rivals under pressure
- OPENAI targets programs automation beyond the level of junior developer
- The developers could soon choose the AI on the IDE if the integration of the windsurfing strikes full speed
OPENAI is expected to acquire Windisurf, a coding assistant powered by leading artificial intelligence, as part of an agreement that would have a value of $ 3 billion.
At the time of writing the editorial’s moment, the agreement has not yet been finalized, however, if this is going on, it would mark the largest acquisition of Openai to date and would signal an aggressive thrust to dominate the rapid development field of software development assisted by AI.
Windsurf, previously known as codeium, is an Inc. exAufunction product, a startup that has drawn significant attention from investors in the past year, as one of the many emerging tools that reflect prompt language prompts in the labor code, reducing the need for manual development and, in some cases, the automation of tasks generally managed by junior engineers.
This acquisition would put Openai in a more direct competition with Microsoft’s GitHub co-pilot and the AI developer tools of Anthropic, two of the best coding platforms of this space.
Windsurfing was recently estimated at $ 1.25 billion and had been in talks with investors to raise new funding to an evaluation of $ 3 billion before Openai penetrated with an acquisition offer.
The agreement follows the recent investment round of $ 40 billion in Openai, led by SoftBank, which brought the company’s assessment to $ 300 billion.
With such financial support, Openai offers resources to extend its coding solutions and integrate Windisurf capacities into its wider ecosystem.
There was no official public commentary on Openai or Windsurfing, but sources suggest that the acquisition could give OPENAI an advantage in the construction of AI assistants who include better and perform complex programming tasks.
The company probably targets a unified platform which not only generates functional code but also adapts to the habits of individual developers and the needs of the project.
