- Apple would have worked on a new chip to supply smart glasses, which should be ready in 2027
- These first intelligent Apple glasses will probably face the Ray-Ban meta-lunes
- The company will also work on a more advanced pair
According to rumors, Apple worked on intelligent glasses for what looks forever, and it is logical to consider that this portable gadget would be lighter than the Apple Vision Pro with a thinner versatile design and, hopefully, lighter on the wallet too.
A new report by Bloomberg Mark Gurman explains that the technological giant based in Cupertino makes progress on a chip that will feed “his first smart glasses”.
The report notes that “progress has been made” on the chip, which means that internal work on intelligent glasses are accelerating and that production on the processor should start at the end of 2027.
Now the dates can move and change, but that would put these smart glasses on the road to release in about two years.
It was not full AR glasses that have long been broadcast for a long time; The report indicates rather that these intelligent glasses “would compete with the popular Ray-Ban shows” of Meta. Meta-rays are a success for the company, landing in a construction similar to the classic glasses. They allow you to take photos or videos without removing a phone and offer easy access to the Meta AI assistant.
Apple’s exact features set for these smart glasses that would not overlap the world around you is not yet settled. According to the report, “Apple currently explores non -AR glasses that use cameras to scan the surrounding environment and rely on AI to help users.”
It looks quite like what Meta Ray -Ban offers and also visual intelligence on the iPhone 16 – and iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro range – which uses Google or Chatgpt to identify what is in the scene. Hopefully by 2027, however, Apple Intelligence will be more widely deployed, with Siri propelled by AI in the hands of many consumers on the iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Seeing that this indicated chip is modeled after the Apple Watch SOC, it is likely that these intelligent glasses go to another device like an iPhone, probably in a process similar to the configuration of an Apple Watch or AirPods.
However, Apple is not content to focus on building smart glasses without AR. The report notes that this new model and the previously rumor are in development, and that Tim Cook really wants to beat Meta in the world of smart glasses.
Offering more than one model when when the time comes for a version would be an easy way to attract more consumers, especially if it reduces the entry price.
Despite this, we are far from the smart glasses of Apple’s rumors, because two years old put them as soon as 2027, but I bet that we will see much more rumors and relationships in the head.
In the more immediate future, however, the World Wide Developers conference of Apple will start on June 9, 2025, and the company should share more on its new generation platforms and its Apple intelligence as a whole. Who knows, we could even get a more substantial update for pro vision, which could refer to future glasses.
