- Sony’s new WH-1000XM6 WHEREAS are finally there
- They look familiar, but bring back a folding design
- New processor and microphones for better noise cancellation
It’s been a long time to come, but Sony has just returned her new generation WH-1000X6 flagship helmet. We have already published our review Full Sony Wh-1000XM5 if you want to directly get a deep look, or read more to learn the essentials.
The XM6 is very similar to the Sony WH-1000XM5, with a modern look and good ears, but the company promises a performance jump and has solved a major design problem that we have with the previous model.
Sony is dispatched these experiences very soon, and the XM6 is being ordered at the moment at $ 449.99 / £ 399 / $ 699 in. It is particularly more expensive in the United States that the Sony XM5 was at the launch (which remains for sale, and which are now regularly less than $ 300).
This higher American price corresponds to the most upscale bose option, the Bose Quietcoft Ultra helmet, but still undermines Apple Rivaux Airpods. However, it is a seriously premium price compared to the best noise cancellation headphones in general.
The management of upgrades in terms of technology is a completely new processor inside the WH -1000XM6 headphones – the Sony QN3 – which feeds noise cancellation, audio reading and a bunch of other facets.
But decompos that and the other key changes, starting with a design change.
1. The XM6 can become quite compact
Sony has corrected a fairly vocal background of XM5 compared to the previous XM4: you can now fold them again in themselves for better portability, because there are two hinges on the ears. This is something we are looking for from the best travel headphones, it was really a shame that the XM5 drops them – but the XM6 repairs all this.
This design change also arrives with a larger higher strip to facilitate comfort during prolonged listening hours. Sony again promises 30 hours of battery life, so a more comfortable adjustment for these long sessions is always a wind. The headband and ears have a soft memory foam on the inside.
As I mentioned above, the ears are always excessive, making them adapt fairly comfortably around the ears themselves. I tried them fairly quickly and I did not feel a huge pressure applied to the stems of my glasses behind my ears. The ears have touch controls and the possibility of keeping your hand on the cup to activate Passthrough mode in a waste – an excellent characteristic of Sony’s latest headphones.
You will also have a physical button for the matching and Bluetooth power supply, a USB-C cable for recharging and an audio plug. Sony ships cables for both in the box.
Finally, concerning the design, the WH-1000XM6 of Sony will be launched in three colors: black, silver and blue. The transport case included is a little thinner, which should facilitate the profitability of a bag. I like him to abandon a zipper for a magnetic clasp instead, although it has been as long as he holds together even when thrown in a bag.
2. Sony promises the best noise cancellation, with an upgrade of the keys
While the XM5 on the XM4 has not delivered a generational jump for the active cancellation of noise, Sony promises that the XM6 will offer the best of the best, and there is a material jump. Food of the XM6 is the processor Qn3 made Sony, which is seven times faster than the QN1, which has propelled the WH-1000XM5.
Of course, what is noise cancellation technology with just a chip and no microphones? Sony also intensifies this specification-the WH-1000XM6 has 12 microphones, four more than the WH-1000XM5. All of this should come together for stellar performance of noise ecmen and offer a Passhrough mode that allows you to hear the world around you.
Sony has also improved the adaptive noise cancellation optimizer to operate on more frequencies, which should further reduce noise. In this way, you can activate the ANC on the WH-1000XM6, play your favorite songs and not be distracted by the world around you.
The estimation of the 30 -hour battery life is with the active cancellation of noise or the mode of Passhrough engaged; These specifications jump at 40 hours with one or the other extinguished mode, however. There is also a fast charge function – about three hours of playback from three minutes of load – and with the XM6, you can always listen while loading the helmet, which is a practical upgrade.
3. Better audio and quality of call
WH-1000XM6 upgrades are new driver units in the left and right headphones. These of course produce audio for your listening pleasure and have a more rigid dome, in order to produce a better high frequency audio. This should result in lighter voices and the possibility of choosing more beautiful details when listening.
The XM5 was not outdone for reading, but with the same size of 30 mm of pilot, it looks more like a refinement than a drastic upgrade. In a brief demo, I also noticed a clear and clear reading with an improvement in the bass.
Sony also adds an increase in standard stereo audio for music or other sources – that is to say movies, videos or television shows – space audio for a more immersive listening experience.
Finally and above all, Sony has also improved the collection of the voice to take calls, dictate messages or speak with a virtual assistant. Six beam formation microphones are now better capturing your voice, and they are associated with a new IA noise reduction model for 2025, which was formed on more than 500 million voice samples, according to Sony.
With upgrades promised in the cancellation of noise and audio reading, a helmet design that collapses really smaller for easy portability, and still a lot of battery life, there is a lot to love on the Sony WH-1,000m6.
Curious to know how much they happen? Well, go see our complete criticism – the short version is that they are very, very good, but are outdated in some areas by competitors … but as versatile, they are incredibly strong.
The Sony WH-1000XM6 is available now in these three shades for $ 449 / £ 399 / $ 699 in.
