A severe heat wave continues to grasp most parts of Pakistan, temperatures that should remain significantly above normal during the weekend, according to the Pakistan meteorological department (PMD).
A strong high pressure system that prevails in the upper atmosphere leads to extreme conditions, which should persist for at least three to four more days.
Diurnal temperatures are likely to rise to 5 to 7 ° C above seasonal averages in the northern and center regions, notably Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Cashmire and Gilgit-Baltistan-until May 19.
In the southern half, including Sindh, southern Punjab and Balutchistan, temperatures should remain 4 to 6 ° C above normal until May 20.
Friday and Saturday, most areas are expected to undergo very hot and dry conditions, particularly affected southern and central districts.
In the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather has prevailed nationally, with very hot conditions in the plains.
The highest temperatures recorded were 48 ° C in the turbat and the Dadu and 47 ° C in Dera Ghazi Khan.
The main urban centers such as Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Multan and Peshawar should undergo daily tops between 40 ° C and 48 ° C throughout the weekend.
Coastal cities like Karachi will remain warm and humid, while interior districts like Dadu and Mohenjo-Daro can see summits exceeding 50 ° C.
The authorities advise the public to remain hydrated, to avoid outdoor activities during peak hours and to take precautions for heat waves, especially for vulnerable populations.
