The Minister of the Interior of Pakistan, Mohsin Naqvi, credited US President Donald Trump for helping to avoid a potential nuclear conflict between Pakistan and India, saying that his diplomatic efforts had led to a key cease-fire agreement, Express News reported.

Speaking after a meeting with the acting American ambassador Natalie Baker in Islamabad, Naqvi said that Trump’s intervention “had saved the region of horrible destruction” and called it “a service to humanity”.

He also thanked the American envoy for the role of Washington in promoting stability in South Asia.

Naqvi praised Trump’s “positive opinions” on Pakistan leaders and expressed Islamabad’s desire to deepen bilateral cooperation with the United States.

The meeting focused on American-Pakistani relations, mutual interests, regional security and the post-sequence situation between the two neighbors in South Asia.

Baker said the United States appreciates its close ties to Pakistan and remain attached to cooperation in several sectors.
