The United Kingdom welcomes Pakistan, India on understanding the ceasefire

British Foreign Minister David Lammy welcomed the measures taken by Pakistan and India on Friday to obtain an agreement to stop hostilities.

This is the first visit of a British Foreign Affairs secretary in Pakistan since 2021 when the United Kingdom is pressure for the fragile ceasefire to become a lasting peace, read a declaration published by the British High Commissioner in Islamabad.

Lammy visited Pakistan to welcome the ceasefire and clearly indicate that new conflicts are in the interest of anyone, said that the press release, adding that the visit was used to reaffirm that peace and security are the cornerstone of the relations of the United Kingdom with Pakistan which will protect the growth and prosperity of the British, Pakistanis and the larger region.

“The British government praised the cease-fire supported between Pakistan and India, both important partners in the United Kingdom, the Minister of Foreign Affairs affirming the importance of continuous stability of the region during a visit to Pakistan today (Friday, May 16),” the statement said.

During meetings with higher counterparts, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the best British diplomat underlined the immeasurable contribution that people of Pakistani origin brought to British life, and he has recognized how painful in the United Kingdom have been.

Lammy reflected that the British and British and British Pakistani and Indian diasporas would particularly welcome the news of the ceasefire and increased stability for the two countries.

Lammy argued: “Due to the deep and historical ties between our populations and our governments, we are determined to play our role to counter terrorism and to ensure that this fragile ceasefire becomes a lasting peace.”

It is relevant to mention here that the United Kingdom and Pakistan have an important history of working in close collaboration to ensure regional security and stability.
