NA approves the extension of the CSS age limit, attempts to examine from 2026

Friday, the National Assembly adopted a resolution to increase the maximum age limit for candidates appearing in the central examination Superior Services (CSS) from 30 to 35 years, the new policy which should take effect from 2026, the Pakistan Associated Press reported.

The move, introduced by the MNA Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz (PML – N) Mna Syeda Noseen Iftikhar, was brought before the Chamber after a successful request to suspend the rules of procedure. The resolution was adopted without opposition, reflecting broad parliamentary support.

In addition to the increase in the age limit, the resolution also allows candidates a total of five attempts to the CSS exam. The legislators have urged the government to implement these changes without delay in order to give potential candidates enough time to prepare under revised criteria.

The CSS exam serves as a key gateway to the federal elite services of Pakistan, including administration, foreign affairs, customs and other civilians. He has traditionally attracted new university graduates and young professionals, with strict eligibility criteria in terms of age and attempts.

By increasing the age ceiling and allowing an additional attempt, the new measures aim to expand access and offer greater flexibility to aspiring who may need more time to prepare or enter the labor market later.
