The Knicks were heavy outsiders in the series, while the reigning champions boasted of the second best record of the Eastern Conference at 61-21, 10 games better than the Knicks 51-31.
But the Knicks took the first two games of the series in Boston, overcoming the 20-point deficits at the end of the second half to transform the prospect of the series.

The Celtics ended up taking match 3 in an unbalanced 115-93 match, and even watched the series during the first four quarters of match 4 with a solid lead. But another furious return of the Knicks, combined with the star of the Celtics Jayson Tatum suffering from a torn Achilles, put the Knicks 3-1 with all the momentum.
Even without a tatum, the Celtics managed to avoid elimination at home in match 5 with a 127-102 victory. But when the series returned to Madison Square Garden, the Celtics appeared immediately exceeded, falling into a deep deficit in match 6 at the start of the match, while the Knicks set up by 27 at halftime.

Now, the Celtics will go home against the uncertainty over next season with Tatum which will face a long recovery process.
The Knicks will face the Indiana Pacers, for which they lost in the semi-finals of last year’s conference, seeking to return to the NBA final for the first time since 1999.
