We expect the air of the iPhone 17 to replace the iPhone 16 Plus this year, and it should be super linked – which has raised some questions on the battery life. Now, a new leak suggests that these questions could be answered using new generation silicon battery technology.
According to a Bloomberg report, Battery Maker TDK is ahead of the calendar with a significant upgrade, where silicon is used for the battery anode rather than for conventional graphite. This means that 15% more energy can be packed in the same space.
The shipping for these batteries will start by the end of June, which could give Apple enough time to integrate the batteries in its iPhone 17 series – including iPhone 17 air, which will have less space for a battery than other models in the range.
Now we are quite speculative to join these particular points, but we know that TDK provides both Apple and Samsung. Samsung has of course unveiled its own ultra-milled handset in the form of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge.
Battery capacity and battery life
If the most recent leak is correct, the iPhone 17 air will be delivered with a 2,800 mAh battery capacity. This is a less of the 3,651 mAh battery that you will find in the current model of the iPhone 16, for example.
And the previous rumors on the lifespan of the iPhone 17 air battery contradicted. A recent report suggested that the battery life for a day is not guaranteed for the new phone and that Apple could offer a battery housing accessory for this.
However, in March, a well -placed source said that the battery life would be comparable to the current models of the iPhone 16. Keep in mind that the device will always be in testing at this stage, which may explain contradictory accounts.
