- Xiaomi revealed that his next chipset is 3 nm
- This should compete with the best Apple and Qualcomm smartphone chipsets
- This chipset is completely unveiled on Thursday
Currently, the biggest names in smartphone chipsets are Apple, Qualcomm and Mediatek, and these are only three companies that have so far made smartphone chipsets using a 3 Nm (nanometer) process. But now Xiaomi is about to announce a 3 nm chipset this week.
Publishing on Weibo (via Technde), the CEO of Xiaomi revealed that its Xring 01 chipset will be completely unveiled on Thursday and that – exciting – it uses a 3 nm process.
As a general rule, the smaller the number, the more powerful the chipset and being 3NM should put the XRING 01 in competition with the A18 Pro feeding the iPhone 16 Pro series and the Snapdragon 8 elite supplying the Samsung Galaxy S25 line. In short, it should be an extremely powerful chipset.
Of course, we will not know exactly how we put it to the test, but the first benchmarks spotted by the leak @universeice suggest that it could give the chipsets above a race for their money.
An affordable alternative
This could be a big problem, because it could allow Xiaomi to equip its high -end chipsets phones more affordable – and there is a chance that these savings can be passed on to consumers.
In the unlikely case that Xring 01 surpasses the Snapdragon 8 elite, it would also be the most powerful chipset available for Android phones – and if Xiaomi maintains it exclusive to its own handsets, which could give the company a real advantage.
Of course, even if it is really as powerful as the references suggest, it can have problems, like not being too energy efficient. But in any case, Xiaomi being the first continental Chinese company to reach the 3NM reference is always a significant moment for smartphones.
We should have a clearer idea of its real capacities on Thursday, when Xiaomi fully details the chipset – and an even clearer idea once we tested it for ourselves.
