If you are looking for a serious film that offers much better quality than streaming but does not require the collection of records of the best Blu-ray 4K players, Kaleidescape offers excellent models such as the Five Star Strato V Movie player. At just under $ 4,000, however, the Strato V is beyond many viewers’ budgets – so the arrival of a new player of less than $ 3,000 with serious specifications is welcome.
The new player is called strato e and he strongly resembles the rest of the Strato family. It is designed to operate as an autonomous device with storage on board to download movies, but you can also team up with terra prime servers for large movie collections, and you can use several strato devices in several rooms.
Kaleidescape Strato E: Key characteristics and price
The strato E is designed for home theater lovers, sea installations and commercial configurations. He is a 4K player with SDR, HDR10 and Dolby Vision, he has a BT.2020 colorimetric space and a chroma 4: 4: 4, and he displays up to 2160p at 60fps.
The main thing in Kaleidescape products is that you get the same high binary speed version of the films that you get Blu-ray 4K, which is several times the data you get during streaming, even in 4K.
This means that you get more details, a more natural reproduction of colors and a lighter movement in films.
The Strato E also supports multichannel and spatial audio without loss, including DTS: X and Dolby Atmos, with additional support for Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio and linear PCM up to 7.1hp, 96 kHz / 24 bit. Everything was released via HDMI 2.1 with HDCP 2.3.
The strato E is designed to operate transparently with the high quality Kaleidescape film store, and its internal 480 GB storage is large enough for six full quality 4K films. The films watched are automatically deleted after 48 hours to free up space, but of course, you can restart them at any time. A full download of the film would take about 10 minutes on Gigabit Ethernet, which Kaleidescape Strong recommends in our experience.
It should be noted that in our Strato V criticism, we praised the film store to offer 4K films often long before their release from physical disc, but we thought that even “in the United States, the choice is enormous … Elsewhere, the choice is not as impressive, and the films take more time to be added.”
The strato e is in the Kaleidescape range above the 2K reference player 2K of entry level, the Strato M, and below the strato V. And it is at the price accordingly, with an American price of $ 2,995, which makes it the most affordable 4K player in Kaleidescape.
The international price has not yet been announced, but it will probably cost more in the United States: the $ 3,995 strato V is currently sold at £ 5,380 (about $ 7,200) in the United Kingdom.
