Conor Daly will set up the stands road to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Indianapolis 500 with the obvious goal – win the race and cement itself in the race tradition for the rest of the time.

A victory will be more than being part of the history of Indy 500 forever; He will become a folk hero for his native Indiana, who is eager to see a long end of drought.

It has been 85 years that a racing car driver born in Indiana has won the illustrious race. Daly will lead the Chevrolet sponsored by AMPM n ° 76 with Wilbur Shaw in his mind, almost literally. Shaw has won three Indy 500 races, but no one in Indiana has won it since 1940.

He will wear a helmet that honors the legendary driver on Sunday.

“It’s crazy, 85 years since the latest winner of Indian 500 Indiana. It seems bad. It just seems sad. We have to change this,” Daly, who was born in Nobleville, in PK Press Club Digital. “It was just a cool idea that I found my helmet painter.

“I try to find something unique each year for the Indy 500 helmet because it is just a special event, and we put an old photo of his car of the day – 1940 was the last winner, which is crazy. Put the 1940 ticket above the helmet also with a few small details.”

Daly qualified 11th for the race and should start between Scott McLaughlin and Alexander Rossi, who both won the race in the past.

He praised how fast the car was for him. Its average speed during the qualifications was around 231 MPH.

“I feel really good,” he said. “This is one of the best cars I had in my Indycar career here, and I know it’s a daring statement to say, but it was really a pleasure to drive all week. I equaled my best starting position with 11th. We are just alongside last year pole-turn, Scott McLaughlin. We are in the fight. … This car is just flat and it’s really special.”

He called driving at such a high speed of “really crazy” speed.

“I don’t know why you don’t look at what we are doing here because it’s really crazy,” he said. “We are at this level where cars fly in the air, crashing at a high level, because we put these things on the absolute absolute control edge and that’s what it takes to win the biggest race.

“It is the biggest breed that we have through motorsport. Some people like to assert this, but physically, if you ask racing pilots that have been in sport for a long time, Indy 500 is the big one. It’s crazy and what we are doing there is wild.”

Daly said that winning the Indy 500 would be an achievement of all the hard work he has done throughout his career.

“This is why I wake up every morning,” Juncos Hollinger Racing pilot told PK Press Club Digital.

More importantly, he has already chosen the milk he was going to Chug if they could.

“I’ve been in whole milk in recent years, but I’ve not yet won,,” he said. “So, I decided to change it. We are going to go 2% because why not? Let’s choose something different and maybe that will get the victory.”

The Indy 500 will be broadcast on May 25 on Fox with a blanket from 10 a.m. he. It will also be available to broadcast live on Foxsports.com and the Fox Sports application.
